VBS  2010:  KINGDOM  OF  THE  SON

Vacation Bible School 2010
June 28 – July 2
9am – 12pm

Take a walk on the wild side at Kingdom of the Son VBS! During this spectacular prayer safari, kids journeyed into the Serengeti—the magnificent grassland region of Tanzania and Kenya. They discovered exotic animals, engaged in safari mission projects, played exciting games, sang upbeat songs and enjoyed delicious safari snacks.

And while your kids were having safari fun, they also learned to talk to God as they explored the Lord’s Prayer, and went on an expedition of God’s Word.

Over 40 Bibles were given out.

Vacation Bible School 2010 Mission Projects

A general offering was taken by VBS, and crafts made by different age groups were used as charitable donations:

  • Our mission projects this year began in our craft classes during the week as the children worked on projects that will be donated to others.  Many of those projects can be seen on VBS 2010 Photo Page.

  • Preschool
Giraffe Flower Pots for Covenant Woods

  • Kindergarten
Pre-made Cookie Mix Bags for Cool Spring Homebound. These plus the soup bags below will be distributed to our homebound during one of the visits they receive.

Pencil Cases - Local elementary school plans to distribute these to children whose families are financially struggling and may not be able to afford some of the basic school supplies. The VBS children will be donating school supplies throughout the week to put in these.

  • 1st and 2nd Grade
Seasonal Door Decorations for Heritage Green Nursing Home. Just a little something to brighten up the doors for each season.

Pre-made Soup Mix Bags for CS homebound.

  • 2nd and 3rd Grade
Colors of Faith Bead Bracelets - Pregnancy Resource Center to use these for witnessing to the moms who attend their bible studies

No-Sew Fleece Blankets - Hanover Safe Place will distribute these to the children who are abruptly removed (along usually with their mothers) from their homes for safety reasons and may not be able to bring anything with them from home.

  • 4th and 5th Grade
Lord’s Prayer Cards - These will be placed into bag that contain glasses (the church will be donating these throughout VBS week and during the summer) that will be going with the youth on their mission trip to Africa.

Sock-it-to-Mission – They will be decorating socks in an African motif to be used to collect the offering throughout the VBS week. On Thursday / Sunday, children will present the socks filled with the offering to Bryan.  Over $1066 was raise in the offering throughout the week.

Military Card Kits – The children will be making 30 kits to be sent to a military base somewhere in the USA. These kits contain 8 cards for the children to send to their parent who is deployed. There are also postcards included for the parents to write back to the child. Everything is provided (cards, envelopes, stamps, etc.) so that neither the child nor the provider at home has to worry about it.

  • In addition, the Chick-fil-A on Bell Creek Rd. in Mechanicsville sponsored a Spirit Night on Wednesday, June 30th from 5:30 - 8:00 with 10% of the proceeds going toward the offering.
