Do I Really Need a Savior?
I try to be a good person, I give to charities, and
I volunteer to help others.
My parents are Christians, and I grew up in a Christian home. I go to
church for Easter and Christmas services, but I don't seem to have the time to
go
more often. I am not sure if I really need a Savior that much, because I
don't break any of the big laws of the Ten Commandments, such as stealing,
killing, etc. Since God is a loving God, I am sure that he will overlook
the little things that I might do that are wrong.

Yes! Jesus is the Savior.
Many people concern themselves with all of the things
that they think they can do to get into Heaven: doing good deeds, going to
church, not breaking the law, being a good person, and even being born into a
Christian home. However, the Bible tells us that there is nothing that we
can do to get into Heaven. In fact, none of us deserve an eternal life
with God in Heaven, and there is no amount of good deeds, church work, Bible
study, or money donated to the church that will gain our salvation.
Instead, the Bible says that we
become right with God not through what we do, but through the work that Christ
has already done for us:
…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified
freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Romans
3:23-24
If you confess with your mouth - Jesus is Lord - and believe in your heart that
God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Christ willingly died on the cross as a sacrifice for
all of mankind, so that we can gain eternal life. This is a free gift -
the price has already been paid by Christ. All that we have to to is to
accept Christ as our Savior, and make Him the Lord of our lives.
Some people think that if you are a good person, God
will approve of us and grant us an eternal home in Heaven when we die.
However, if this were true, how would we ever know if we had done enough good
work to gain entry into Heaven? Would we have to do one good deed for
every sin that we committed? Perhaps it would take 10 good deeds to compensate
for every sin. We would never know.
With Jesus Christ as our Savior, we know for sure that
enough has been done for us to get into Heaven. So is there any importance
to being a good person, doing good deeds, going to church, etc? Yes, all
of these things are important. But with Christ as Savior, they are
important not to gain salvation, but to do God's will and glorify God!
