Conclusions about Perception vs. Reality
From the previous examples, it is
clear that our visual perception is easily deceived. In the case of the
hidden lion in the grass, the image of the lion becomes obvious once we know it
is there. In the case of the image that is only perceived when it is
moving, the reality is that the image is actually always present, whether moving
or not. In the case of the disappearing circle, the circle never really
disappeared. In the case of the dissimilar birds, the birds are actually
identical. And in the case of the distorted face, our perception cannot
begin to see the true ugliness of the face until it is turned right side up.
In all of these cases perception is
not reality. God is reality, but we cannot prove or disprove God based on
our physical senses. The belief in God is based on faith. We can ask
God to open our eyes to Him in prayer, and ask that He overcome our disbelief.
In the book of Mark, there is an account of a man pleading with Jesus to heal
his son who was possessed by an evil spirit. The man asked Jesus if Jesus
could overcome the evil spirit. Jesus replied:
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus.
“Everything is possible for him who believes.”
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my
unbelief!” - Mark 9:23-24
Once you "see" the
reality of Jesus and God in your life, you can ask God for forgiveness of your
sins. You can thank Jesus for dying for your sins, and thank God for
forgiving all of your sins. You can ask Jesus to come into your life, and
become the Lord of your life. If you sincerely believe in Jesus and ask
these things in prayer, rejoice, because now you can also thank God for granting
you the free gift of eternal life!
"I tell you the truth, he who believes has
everlasting life." -
John 6:47
