Opportunities - Missions Ministries

Shown below are ongoing opportunities of service within the
Missions Ministry.

  • Go to Immediate Opportunities of Service for the most urgent needs in the Missions Ministry.

  • Click here for more information about the Missions Ministry.

  • Missions Education - AWANA - Approved Workmen Are Never Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15 NIV) - Awana is a ministry that assists churches in reaching children ages 4 through the 5th grade with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and training them to serve Him.  The heartbeat of Awana is reaching children around the world with the good news that Jesus loves them and can save them from sin.  Each week, children in our Awana clubs play games, memorize Bible verses, listen to Bible stories, and participate in mission opportunities.  Children have fun while being taught the Word of God.

  • Missions Education - Mission Waves - Students in grades 6-12 are regularly involved in mission activities in the community to promote mission involvement and awareness which helps them to realize they are invited by God to be directly involved in ministry.  Some of the mission projects include Homeless Ministry in DC and Richmond, Rake & Run Ministry (assisting senior adults and single moms), visitation to nursing homes and volunteering with the Children's Ministry.  They also assist Church-sponsored mission projects.  Occasionally, they meet with missionaries or mission volunteers who return from projects, to increase mission awareness.

  • Missions Education - Adults on Mission - Our desire is to develop groups of adults that will meet on a regular basis for mission support and action within our church, community, and world.  This ministry is based on small groups and is comprised of both men and women.  Groups can support existing church sponsored missions ministries or develop their own as determined by the passions and gifts of its members.

  • Missions Education - Women on Mission - This group provides opportunities for women in our church family to become involved in missions.  They keep the congregation aware of world-wide efforts to share the gospel and enhance learning by making materials with a mission focus available.  The purpose of the group is to study current missions and promote these in the church.  They place special emphasis on prayer for missionaries and promote the four annual offerings for missions: Association, State, North American, and International.

  • Missions Promotion - Each year, Cool Spring places special emphasis on International Missions and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering; North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Offering; State Mission and the Alma Hunt Offering; and Associational Missions.  Promoting missions in this way keeps our church current on issues of importance to our Southern Baptist missionaries.

  • Missions Action - C.A.R.I.T.A.S. - Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter was organized to care for the homeless year round.  Each Spring, shelter is offered to homeless families for two weeks at Cool Spring.  This ministry began in 2002 and has offered refuge for infants to adults.  Volunteers are needed for Prayer, Meals, Overnight, Cleaning, Laundry, Nurturing, and Setup teams.  This ministry involves the entire church family.

  • Missions Action - Food Pantry Ministry - The church maintains a Food Pantry to assist those in need in our community.  Recipients come to the church to pick up the food which is collected through the Adult Bible Study classes and missions organizations.  The food is sorted and stored at the church and is distributed by the church staff on an as-needed basis.  Recipients complete a request form and may receive assistance once a month.

  • Missions Action - Church Hill Ministry - The Church Hill Christian Wellness Center is located in Mount Tabor Baptist Church and is a ministry of the Richmond Baptist Association.  The Wellness Center offers after school tutoring, adult Bible study, computer classes, fitness equipment, food, clothing, and health classes.  Individuals or groups can use their passions and fits for this urban ministry.

  • Missions Action - Hanover Juvenile Correctional Center Ministry - Cool Spring members provide Bible study every Thursday night for teenage boys in a correctional setting.  Volunteers must be trained and approved by the center.  This ministry began over 35 years ago at Barrett JCC.  This is a seed planting ministry; however, we see lives changed and boys won to the Lord.

  • Missions Action - Disaster Relief Ministry - Whether assisting in community disaster, supporting Virginia Baptist relief efforts, or supporting the North American Mission Board, we utilize all of the volunteers, resources, and equipment that we have available to assist those in distress.  Volunteers will receive training through the church, Red Cross and State Baptist Disaster Ministry.

  • Missions Action - Essex Village Ministry - In partnership with the pastor of Essex Village Community Church, Cool Spring provides assistance to the residents of this Richmond Housing center.  This ministry supports a 24 hour child care as well as other ministries.  An annual Turkey Distribution for Thanksgiving provides hundreds of turkeys and groceries along with scriptures to those in need.

  • Missions Action - Habitat for Humanity - Hanover Habitat for Humanity seeks to provide adequate housing for county residents.  Cool Spring has worked with other area churches in the past to build homes in Hanover.  Volunteers and funds are needed to assist in this effort.  Hundreds of Hanover homes have substandard water, sewer, heating, and/or roofing.  Our desire is that all people have adequate housing.

  • Missions Action - Gospel Jail Ministry - The Gospel Jail Ministry is a non-denominational, evangelical organization that provides pastoral care for inmates and staff regardless of race, religion, sex, handicap, criminal charge or sentence.  The ministry works to bring the good news of the Gospel to the inmates through personal contact, worship services, Bible study, family contact, follow-up and liaison help.

  • Missions Action - M.C.E.F. - Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Fund is a nonprofit organization developed by area churches to provide emergency assistance to families.  Various churches house clothing, food, furniture, and other items when disaster strikes.  Funds are also made available for temporary housing and other short term needs.

  • Missions Action - Needles Eye Ministry - Needles Eye Ministry is a nonprofit Christian ministry to the business and professional community of Richmond.  Men and women's small group Bible studies are offered as well as monthly luncheons for fellowship and testimonies.  Counseling and support groups are available for those in need.  Our support for this ministry is minimal, yet we feel that is is a worthy ministry to the Richmond business community.

  • Missions Action - Refugee Ministry - Each year hundreds of people come to Richmond from other countries a refugees.  In 2001, six Sudanese young men came to Richmond to find a new home.  These young men were "adopted" by our church and assisted with their adjustment to life in America.  Two of them joined Cool Spring.  Some received training in Pennsylvania and Iowa, while others remained in Richmond.  We assist with seasonal clothing, food, and training in the American way of life.

  • Missions Action - Christmas Child Ministry - Operation Christmas Child is a division of Samaritan's Purse founded by Franklin Graham.  Each year shoe boxes filled with toys and personal items are collected and shipped to children in need around the world.  The shoe boxes are a way for Americans to share with less fortunate children and provide a way to share Jesus.  A Christmas tree is decorated at church with brochures for families to take so they can fill a box for a boy or a girl.

  • Missions Action - New Vision Ministry - Used eyeglasses are collected at church to send to missionaries overseas to provide sight to individuals with no eye care.  Our members clean, adjust, and read the prescription to aid the missionary doctors in dispensing the glasses.  Volunteers are needed to organize the collection and to prepare and send the glasses to the missionaries.

  • Missions Action - Recreation Evangelism Ministry - This form of evangelism is growing worldwide and provides opportunities for short term volunteers to teach American sports and share Jesus.  Volunteer teams are needed to travel overseas to share in this unique ministry.

  • Missions Action - Student Mission Trips Ministry - The Student Ministry provides opportunities for middle and high school students as well as college students to experience missions first hand. Day and week long trips are planned for each group.  The Student Ministry provides brochures on specific missions and dates.  The ministries included Rake & Run, Homeless ministry, Nursing Home ministry, Impact Virginia, and AIM, as well as foreign missions trips to countries like Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

  • Missions Action - Adult Mission Trips Ministry - Money is budgeted each year to support people on mission.  Applications are available from Mission Ministry Team Leaders and are approved on a case by case basis.  We need leadership capable of coordinating and implementing groups of adults to go on mission projects each year.  The Association, State and Convention offer mission opportunities each year for individual and group involvement.
