Bacon's Castle | Smith Fort Plantation | Lunch at The Surry Seafood Company
Friday, April 19 | 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Cost: $41 | Limited to 29

Travel with us to beautiful Surry,VA, as we visit Bacon’s Castle and Smith Fort Plantation. We will start at Bacon’s Castle, the oldest brick dwelling in North America and home of Arthur Allen, a prosperous merchant and planter. The home earned the name “Bacon’s Castle” in 1676 when several of Nathaniel Bacon’s men occupied the home for 4 months during the uprising that became known and Bacon’s Rebellion. We will enjoy a guided tour of the home and have time to walk through the lovely 17th century English formal gardens.

The Surry Seafood Company, situated on Gray’s Creek, will be our lunch stop. After lunch we will head to Smith’s Fort Plantation, the site of Captain John Smith’s proposed “New Fort” which still has earthworks that mark the spot of the unfinished fort. The manor house on the property was built by Jacob Faulcon circa 1761 and retains much of its original pine woodwork. On our guided tour we will learn about the lives and legacies of Captain John Smith, John Rolfe, and Pocahontas.

Register, select your lunch and pay $41 at the Rec Center by April 10.
