COOL  SPRING  MISSIONS  MINISTRY:  OVERVIEW

The Missions Ministry at Cool Spring includes a number of major ministries, with the underlying goal being to develop the church's awareness of missions, and creating opportunities for involvement in missions action for all age groups. Hurricane Sandy Response Thanks to your support, a donation for $2,175 was made from Cool Spring to the Virginia Baptist Mission Board for Disaster Relief. Almost 200,000 meals were served in the Fort Tilden location on the Rockaway's in New York and 23,000 meals were served in West Virginia. More than 2,000 pounds of supplies were delivered to the Rockaway's by Lowell Brummett who volunteered for a week on the Mass Feeding unit. Larry Eavey served for a week in New York and an additional week in West Virginia.   C.A.R.I.T.A.S. Update Thank You Cool Spring Family! During Labor Day Weekend 2012 You: Made 530 sandwiches for bag lunches Washed 450 lbs of laundry Provided dinner for 330 people Prepared breakfast each morning at 4:30 am! Prayed with and for each person daily Offered an encouraging word or just a smile Slept overnight so our church facility and guests would be safe Ran errands for everything from bottled water to bananas to deodorant Without your financial support, gifts of time and service, daily prayers and God's grace, we would not have been able to accomplish this huge task! Cool Spring truly demonstrated the love of Jesus to these folks during their stay with us.   Cool Spring Sends a Team to Haiti - August 22 - August 26, 2012 Eight individuals will be leaving Richmond on Wednesday of the week of August 20th to visit the orphanages of Haiti for the purpose of bringing hope to children in great need. The team will be working with the leadership of Soles4Souls to outfit the children of the local communities and orphanages with new shoes and and in the effort to eradicate poverty. The team has given of their time, money and talents to assist in the life-changing endeavor. They have collected toys and other items of need to take with them as they make the journey to Haiti. The team includes: Glen Bohannon, Linda McNally, Alice Rusher, Donna Wright, Jane Mason, Cynthia Brent, Marsha Rettig and Brenda Birkitt. They would appreciate your prayers as they go in His name to bring hope to the children and to love the people as Christ fist loved us ... unconditionally. • AWANA - AWANA is Missions Education for children from age 3 through 5th grade, and stands for "Approved Workmen are Never Ashamed," from Timothy 2:15.  AWANA is a nondenominational ministry that assists churches in reaching children with the gospel of Jesus Christ and training them to serve Him. The heartbeat of AWANA is reaching children around the world with the good news that Jesus Christ loves them and can save them from sin. Each week, children in our Awana clubs play games, memorize Bible verses, listen to Bible stories, and participate in mission opportunities. Children have fun while being taught the Word of God.

• Student Missions - Students in grades 6-12 are regularly involved in mission activities in the community to promote mission involvement and awareness.  This helps them to realize they are invited by God to be directly involved in ministry.  Some of the mission projects involve the Homeless Ministry (Washington D.C. and Richmond), Rake and Run (assisting senior adults or single moms), visitation to nursing homes and volunteering with the Children's Ministry.  They also assist church-sponsored mission projects and trips.  Occasionally they are exposed to missionaries or mission volunteers who return from projects, to increase mission awareness.

• Adults on Mission - Our desire is to develop groups of adults that will meet on a regular basis for mission support and action within our church, community, and world. This ministry is based on adult Bible study and small groups, and is comprised of both men and women. Groups can support existing church sponsored missions ministries or develop their own as determined by the passions and gifts of its members.
   
• Women on Mission (WMU) - This group provides opportunities for women in our church family to become involved in mission.  They keep the congregation aware of world-wide efforts to share the gospel and enhance learning by making materials with a mission focus available.  The purpose of the groups is to study current missions and promote these in the church.  They place special emphasis on prayer for missionaries and for promoting the four annual offerings for missions:  Association, State, North America, and International.
   

Each year, Cool Spring places special emphasis on International Missions and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering; North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Offering; State Missions and the Alma Hunt Offering; and Associational Missions.  Promoting missions in this way keeps tout church current on issues of importance to our Southern Baptist missionaries.
