Hi everyone!
I have a couple of special prayer requests:
1) Please pray for David Butts and the Casa
Nicodemo. The Casa Nico is an old hotel that David is renting from a man
here in Ecuador. At the Casa, David houses nationals that live in the
country who go to school here in Ambato, but do not have enough money to
make the long trip to and from the city everyday. The nationals live at
Casa Nico for free, and David serves as their decipler and mentor.
All of the guys that live at Casa Nico have since come to Christ and
David is now teaching them how to run a Christian family as well as
plant churches in their communities. Several of my friends live there
including Luis and Silvia and my friend Eduardo; please continue to be
in prayer for the guys that live there.
Now for the "special" part. The man who David is renting the Casa from
called yesterday to get all the beds back, the beds that the guys living
there have been sleeping on since January, the same beds that David was
told he could buy. We (the four girls) have also been using four of
these beds at our apartment. The frustrating thing is that the landlord
told David a few months earlier that he would sell the beds to him for
$120 each. But Yesterday when he called, he told David that he would
only sell them for $300 each because it is so expensive to transport
them. He also told David that he did not remember telling him that he
would sell him the beds for $120.
So, the guys at the Casa took all the beds apart and brought the frames
and the mattresses downstairs, as well as brought our beds from the
apartment over to the Casa (there were somewhere around 80 beds) and had
them waiting downstairs in the dinning room ready for the landlord to
come pick them up. When he got to the casa, he told David that since the
mattresses did not look brand new, that David would have to buy them
all, and that he (the landlord) would be taking the bed frames.
The day had been very stressful so far because everyone had to be up
VERY early to take apart and move all the beds, as well as the fact that
the landlord was being unreasonable with David about the price of the
beds, and he kept changing his mind about what he wanted back. We all
helped load the bed frames into the landlord's truck, and then moved all
the mattresses back up into the rooms they bad been in.
We are not sure if the landlord will change his mind again about the
mattresses, but as of now, David will be buying all of them. He still
needs to find bed frames for all of the mattresses that are not too
expensive so the people living at Casa Nico will not be sleeping on the
floor. Please pray that David will find those soon. Also please pray
that the relationship between David and his landlord does not become
stressed, and that the landlord will not change his mind about renting
the building. They need to stay on good terms so David will be able to
keep the Casa open for the nationals.
Now on to the second prayer request:
2) David and Debbie have asked me to be a translator for the next few
weeks when we have high school groups. I am very comfortable talking to
my Ecuadorian friends, and I have translated before when we had groups
in the past, but there was always an "official" translator with me.
These next couple of weeks I will be the primary translator for my
groups, and I am nervous because there will not be anyone else in my
group who knows both English and Spanish. Also, please pray for Tyler
Burkett who is the project coordinator for the groups coming in the next
few weeks, as well as for the groups themselves.
Thank you so much for your prayers so far, as well as
for your prayers regarding these prayer requests! I will give updates as
they come!
In His Hands,
Jamie
