Hello! Thank you so much for all your prayers
over the last month. I really appreciate your faithful intercession on my
behalf! Here are a few of the things that have gone on…
Praises
- Our ACM meeting was great. It was awesome to see everyone again and meet
some new people as well. I was really encouraged by the lives of many of the
missionaries there—to see where God has led them and the faith that He has
given them through many trying situations was incredible.
- My wisdom teeth left my mouth with overwhelming ease! Thanks for all the
prayers for that!
- Megan and I have successfully moved into the Morris’ house and so far,
it is still standing and the animals are all alive and appear to be happy!
Prayer Requests:
- Tomorrow Megan and I head up to Zimbabwe. We are driving to Jo’burg
tomorrow (Aug. 9), staying with a friend, and then flying to Bulawayo on
Wednesday afternoon. On Friday (Aug. 12) and Saturday (Aug. 13) we will be
leading a True Love Waits training program for some Christian leaders from
both Zimbabwe and possibly Botswana. We will fly from Zimbabwe back to
Jo’burg on Monday (Aug. 15) and then drive back to Grahamstown on Tuesday
(Aug. 16). Please pray for safe travel. Pray that the Lord will really be
at work during this time and give these leaders a passion for the truth of
God’s word, especially regarding abstinence. Pray that Megan and I will
trust the Lord for every part of this trip and be sensitive to His leading.
- The True Love Waits Rally for Alexandria will be on Saturday, August 27.
It seems to be coming together nicely, as the school is being very
supportive, we’ve done advertising, and have talked to the team who will be
presenting. There will still be a few details to work out on our return from
Zimbabwe, so please pray that all of this will come together. Pray that,
again, I will really be able to trust the Lord for all parts of this rally
and commit it to Him. Pray that He will move in a mighty way through this
community and that many hearts will be opened to the gospel and the truth in
God’s word about sexual abstinence.
- The church in Alexandria is doing fairly well. Please continue to
pray for Mandla, the pastor. Pray that he will have wisdom from God in how
to lead this small church, and fresh excitement for what God has him there
to do. Pray that he will be faithful to the calling that God has put on his
life.
- GAP continues to be a joy. We are trying to get some new people in
leadership, so that when Megan and I leave, there will still be a lot of
helpers. Pray that God will plant a passion for seeing kids follow Him in
the hearts of these new leaders. Pray that God will continue to be at work
in the hearts of the kids that attend.
- The Wednesday night Bible Study has been struggling a bit this term.
Attendance had been dropping towards the end of last term, and the first
week we met of this term, only one guy showed up. Last week there were a few
more guys (but still no girls!). Pray for godly wisdom in what needs to
be done in this ministry. We need to be passing leadership on to someone
new, but this is difficult when there is not a core group coming each week.
Pray that God’s will be done in this situation.
- Finally, pray for me as I begin to wrap things up here in South
Africa. I have a little under three months left and I know that
the time is going to fly away from me. Pray that I will be able to step
out of the ministries here in a God-glorifying way. Pray that I will cling
to the Lord as I seek to find closure on the many wonderful relationships
that I have here. Pray for wisdom and direction from God in where He may be
leading me in the future.
Update sent 8/24/05
Hello friends! Just wanted to briefly update you on what’s been going on and
give you some things to be lifting up this week…
Zimbabwe
Ahhhh, Zim! I really love that place. Thanks so much
for all of your prayers for our trip, they were most definitely answered!
First, we were able to fly from Johannesburg to Bulawayo, and that turned
out to be a huge blessing seeing as Megs and I couldn’t seem to find our way
from here to Jo’burg and back (we got lost more times than I can remember!).
It was also so encouraging to be with Tiffany, the j-man in Zim, getting to
know her a bit better and seeing how God is at work there.
The training went great, and the people trained seemed
very excited. Also, a friend from Carson-Newman who is a j-man in Botswana
was able to come over with another j-man and some nationals and it was SO
AWESOME to get to see her again and chat about old times. Altogether a great
trip! Please continue to pray for those trained, that God will give them
a vision for sharing His truth and that they will not grow weary of speaking
it!
Some requests…
- You guys remember my friend Nosicelo, who I taught with. She has a
cousin who has basically grown up living with her, named Nokubongwa.
Nokubongwa is about 17 and still in grade 11 at school. This past June, she
had a baby. The family of course has been under stress adjusting to someone
so young and still in high-school becoming a mom. Then we found out
yesterday that the baby passed away on Monday night. The funeral will be
tomorrow. This family has really gone through a lot lately. Please pray
for Nokubongwa and the Ncula family, that they will seek God during this
time and take comfort in Him. Pray that they will seek the hope and power
found in Christ.
- The True Love Waits Rally in Alexandria is set for this Saturday!! I
feel like everything has been somewhat last minute, as far as plans go. I am
really having to learn to trust God for the details in this one. As of now,
it seems like everything is falling together. Please pray that God will
work out all the little things. Pray that He will move in a powerful way,
and that HE will really speak HIS truth into the hearts of these kids. Pray
that each and every kid that He desires to be there will come. Pray for the
guys that are presenting—Mandla, Archie, and Phil. Pray for Megan and I as
we finalize plans and TRUST GOD!
Thank you so much for your prayers! Please remember that God is faithful to
answer us and moves in a powerful way when we ask in faith. Know that you
are an important part of what He is doing here! Let’s wait expectantly for
what He will do…

Hey everyone! Just a quick update for you...
- Last weekend went GREAT! Thanks so much for your prayers! The TLW rally went
so well, there were over 100 kids there and the presenters did great. It was
all definitely an answer to prayer!
-
This week has been quite a hectic one. Please pray for me personally that I
will be able to remain in God and draw all my strength from Him.
-
This weekend, I will be going on a camp with a Bible Study of sorts that I
have been helping to lead. It is called the Alpha Course for any of you who
may be familiar with it. It basically consists of videos by pastor Nicky
Gumble, followed by discussion. I got involved with it through some friends
and have just been helping out a little. Most who attend are Rhodes
University students and God has been doing some cool things. This weekend
the videos will focus on the Holy Spirit, who He is and what He does in our
lives. God has been teaching me a LOT about this personally, so pray for us
all that God would really speak to us through this weekend!
-
Next week another missionary friend from Cape Town is getting to come up to
Grahamstown to visit! Yay! This is really a blessing and I'm so glad it's
working out.
-
Next Friday (Sept. 9) I will be heading to Cape Town for a mission trip with
some Rhodes University students. Pray that God will really use this time and
works out each detail. He's been so faithful in this already!
Thanks so much for your prayers and encouragement!
love you guys,
heather :-)
