The Care
Ministry - WiseCounsel
- For those who are hurting and need a
listening ear...
- Maybe one of our trained lay counselors can be of help.
"Where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the multitude of
counselors there is safety."
- Proverbs 11:14
WiseCounsel is a group of lay believers
trained and certified to administer help and comfort through the redeeming
love of Christ. Our group at Cool Spring began in 2000 as a branch
of the Care Ministry. Wendy Atkinson serves a s overseer of this
ministry. Led by Dr. Wes McEntire, a clinical psychiatrist, along
with Nancy Jackson, a registered nurse, students develop the necessary
skills to effectively minister in everyday encounters, both individually
and to the church as a whole. As a ministry it is a free
service, and is flexible to one's personal needs.
Who can use WiseCounsel?
Most likely, everyone at some point in their lives
needs someone to talk to in order to process the hurts and cares of
living. With access to WiseCounsel, hurting people find compassion,
biblical caring, and skills for Christian living. We do not give
advice, but provide guidance to help a hurting person solve his or her own
problem. Some people need a formal appointment, whereas others find
help on the spot. Most can find the redirection they need in one or
two sessions, as they allow God to work in their lives.
WiseCounsel helps with:
- Grief and sickness
- Depression and loneliness
-
Marriage and family
-
Behavior change
- Counseling youth
-
Singles and senior adults
-
Resentment, guilt, suicide
-
Addiction
WiseCounsel also provides on-going counsel to the
church body through seminars dealing with such topics as depression,
holiday stress and other common issues. In the future we plan to
offer group support for those with long-term struggles.
WiseCounsel is ...
Loving, helpful, a guiding light, hopeful, supportive,
godly, biblical, daring to care. So come along - see what we're all
about.
Some problems may be outside the scope of
WiseCounsel. In these cases we are able to refer you to Christian
counselors in our area.
