CARE MINISTRY:
PARISH NURSING MINISTRY |
|
|
The Parish Nursing Team leaders are trained nurses who work with other
health professionals to promote wellness to church members. This is
accomplished through blood pressure screenings, health information on
church bulletin boards, church service handouts, health information in
bathrooms, flu shots, C.A.R.I.T.A.S. assistance, homebound visits in
conjunction with the Pastoral Care Ministry Team, and CPR courses
through the Recreation Ministry.

PARISH
NURSING MISSION |
|
|
The Parish Nursing Ministry Team: Serving Body,
Mind, and Spirit...
A Parish Nurse plays an important role in improving and maintaining the
health of a congregation. This ministry incorporates body, mind, and
Spirit as it empowers members of the congregation to take charge of
their health.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is
in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were
bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.
- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

PARISH
NURSING: SIX
STEPS TO A HEALTHIER YOU |
|
|
-
Eat Your Five a Day. It's important to have at least
five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. They're low in fat,
high in fiber, and contain antioxidants that can protect the body
from many different forms of cancer.
-
Get Moving. Adults should get at least 30-60 minutes
of physical activity every day (children need even more). Instead of
watching TV, get active with your family. Go for a walk, ride a
bike, wash the car, play with your kids, or stop by the Recreation
Center for a variety of activities. Being active should be fun, so
find something you enjoy doing.
-
Manage Your Stress. With today's busy schedules,
we're surrounded by stress. Too much stress increases your risk of
heart disease and can worsen other health conditions. It can also
leave you exhausted, irritable, and tempted to overeat. Find ways to
relax each day, even if it's only for ten minutes. Exercise,
massage, prayer, and meditation are all good ways to reduce your
stress.
-
Know Your Numbers. Do you know your blood pressure,
your cholesterol level, your blood sugar, and your weight? The first
step to improving your health is to know where you stand. It also
helps for maintaining your health and keeping you on track.
-
Have Fun. Laughter and fellowship with friends does
wonders for mental health. Enjoying a hobby can help relieve stress
and help with a positive outlook.
-
Pray. Studies have shown that people with a strong
spiritual life have better health outcomes and quality of life. If
you don't already, make it a priority every day.
