Jesus
to the Rescue!
Vacation Bible School 2001 was a great success,
with 318 children attending and 160 workers sharing their
faith. Children learned through hand's-on activities in
elaborately decorated rooms throughout the church. Singing,
crafts, skits, recreational activities, refreshments, and visits
from local rescue personnel rounded out the week. In addition,
4 wagon loads of school supplies and other items for needy children
locally and in Brazil were donated during VBS week. Over $250
was donated by the children attending VBS to help with shipping
costs to Brazil.

Rooms were creatively decorated to provide the most interesting
and memorable experience possible for the children as they learned
about famous "rescues" from the Bible, and about Jesus.
- One room had a floor to ceiling replica of Noah's Ark.
- One room had replica of the "fiery furnace" found in
Daniel 3, with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego safely protected
inside with the Son of God.
- Crafts made by the children were displayed in several rooms
illustrating principals from the Bible.
- An interactive display showing the surprise of mixing vinegar
and baking soda was in one room.
- All of the rooms were exceptionally well decorated to explain
the theme being taught.

The closing ceremonies on Friday evening were exciting and well
attended by children and parents, featuring:
- Singing by the VBS children's choir in the sanctuary.
- Skits and other musical performances by the children showing
what they had learned.
- Testimonies by the VBS staff.
- A slide show of many photos from the week.
- An open tour of the rooms that the children had participated
in the church.
- The festivities continued outside with food and visits by
local rescue personnel, including fire trucks, state police,
Hanover sheriff, rescue squad, Baptist rescue vehicle, and car
seat safety checks. We were entertained by the ladder fire
truck, and enjoyed hot dogs, ice cream, snow cones, popcorn, and
fellowship.

During the week, the prayer team was on hand to have intercessory
prayer.
Pastor Larry Frakes emphasized the importance of Vacation
Bible School for our children, and that it really is serious
business. The children learned the importance of the belief in
Jesus, of letting Him into our lives, and of making a decision to
accept Him as our personal savior.
