We explored Historic Petersburg starting with a guided tour of Blandford Church known for its beautiful Tiffany stained-glass windows. The tour included Blandford Cemetery, one of the oldest and largest in America. After lunch at Maria’s Café and Italian Restaurant in Old Town Petersburg we visited the Centre Hill Mansion, an opulent Petersburg residence built in 1823 often described as a symbol of the grandeur of the nineteenth century Virginia aristocracy. During the guided tour we learned the Mansion’s history, including its role during the Civil War and visits by two presidents.
