Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What can I expect to gain from the 40 days of purpose?
Answer: 40 Days of Purpose is about helping you to deepen your relationship with God and reach an understanding of why you were created and what your purpose is in this world. From this campaign, you should expect:

  • to have a concentrated time of prayer and thinking about God's purpose for you.
  • to discover God’s purpose for you in the area of Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry and Evangelism.
  • strengthening of your commitment to Spiritual Growth.
  • help with living a lifestyle of worship to the glory of God.
  • participation in a great fellowship.

Question: If I am not involved in a Small Group Bible Study at Cool Spring, can I get into one for the 40 Days of Purpose?
Answer: Definitely, any one can be involved in the 40 Days of Purpose.  Get connected with a small group near you.

Question: What is expected of me from the 40 days of purpose campaign?
Answer: In order to assist you in learning God's purpose for you life, we are asking that all participants in the 40 Days of Purpose:

  • Obtain The Purpose Driven Life devotional book. It will be available at the church for $10.
  • Read the daily devotionals each day (time commitment: 15 – 20 minutes).
  • Memorize the weekly scripture verse.
  • Attend your small group Bible study class and Sunday Services on Sunday mornings.
  • Eliminate any unnecessary activities or actions that may be a distraction during the campaign.
  • The more that you are able to participate, the more you will gain. The goal is to see you living out God's plan for your life.

Question: How can I help to volunteer during the campaign?
Answer: Serving as a Host home and Facilitator for a small group Bible study may be the most important way to volunteer for the 40 Days of Purpose.  Cool Spring needs 50 Host homes and Facilitators for the 6 week Bible study.  These small group Bible studies will be attended by friends, neighbors, family members, and anyone else who is generally not a member of Cool Spring.  This way, Cool Spring can reach out to the community in a meaningful way.

Question: Is it difficult to serve as a Host home and Facilitator?
Answer: No.  One of the most exciting aspects of the campaign is the opportunity to be a Hosting home, and gathering in small groups to discuss the weekly reading and video-based Bible study taught by Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life.  Specifically:

  • You don't need to be a Bible scholar - Rick Warren does all the teaching.
  • You don't need to be a born leader - If you have never led a group discussion before and want to give it a try, this is a perfect opportunity.
  • You don't need to have a decorator home - People are coming to connect with each other.

Question: If I am a member of Cool Spring, will I attend a small group Bible study if I am not facilitating or hosting one?
Answer: Usually not, unless you are specifically invited by a facilitator to attend his or her group.  The Cool Spring members will have group discussion during Sunday morning Bible Study time.  The main purpose of the small home groups is to reach the community, especially those who are not attending church.

Question: What do I get for my $10 purchase?
Answer: The most critical pieces of printed material for the 40 Days of Purpose is Rick Warren's book titled The Purpose Driven Life.  The book contains 40 days of devotional, thought provoking material which take only 15-20 minutes of time per day to read.  Copies of the book will be available by September 26 to be purchased in your Sunday morning Bible study class, the Welcome Center, or in your Home Small Group.  For this $10 fee you also get a key chain with the memory verses on it, and a student guide.

Question: Who should participate in the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign?
Answer: Anyone who wants to strengthen their relationship with God and potentially change their life should participate in the Campaign.  This includes all adults whether married or single, and it is recommended that high school students also purchase the book.  The Children's Ministry will offer similar Bible Study material during the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign.
