First let me start by saying that another
successful Upward soccer season has come to
an end. From all the directors, we would
like to thank all the coaches, referees and
volunteers for their help. Without your
willingness to give your time and efforts,
this program, like all the Upward programs,
could not exist. We would also like to thank
the mission groups from New Hanover Church
and the Cool Spring youth going to the
Dominican Republic and their parents for
their efforts in manning the concession
stand for the season.
The week after our soccer season ended, I
along with 6 other volunteers in the Upward
programs, went up to Baltimore to attend a
leadership conference. It was a great two
days of fellowship and learning. With Doug
Grote as the emcee, you know there was
always something exciting happening.
Everyone should have the opportunity to
hear, in person, Caz McCaslin talk about
the Upward vision. You could not help but be
inspired.
As you can tell, I am passionate about the
Upward program and what it does for the kids
in our community. What is your passion and
are you using it to help bring more into His
Kingdom? Ephesians 4:7 tells us "Christ has
given each of us special abilities whatever
He wants us to have out of His rich
storehouse of gifts." Are we using our
passions for His glory?
I will close by saying that all the soccer
directors as well as those from basketball
and flag football want to extend a hearty
welcome to Greg English and his family. We
are excited about working with him to make
the Upward Ministry even better.
Looking Upward,
Lewis Brubaker
Soccer Director

Special
Guest Speaker on July 13
Coach Rolando Lamb will be our guest speaker for
all 3 worship services on Sunday, July 13.
From his childhood in the inner cities of
Virginia ... his All-American high school career
... his VCU Hall of Fame collegiate career with
Tubby Smith ... to his eventual draft selection
by the Seattle Supersonics ... Rolando Lamb has
been an achiever.
But rather than sitting on the bench the rest of
his life, Rolando Lamb is taking the principles
of high achievement off the court and into the
arena where it counts most, the arena of life.
Audiences across America are laughing and crying
with "America's Character Coach" as he leads
them in reach their full potential.
Lasting achievement is the natural by-product of
character and integrity. Rolando Lamb's unique
experiences motivate audiences to attain true
character and its lasting rewards.
