Rain, rain go away, come again another day.
This is a song many of us learned as small
children as we urged the rain to stop so we
could go outside and play. Over the past
month, many adults have also been singing
this song so we can get outside to cut the
grass, plant flowers, go fishing, start
grilling or enjoy a baseball game.
A few years
back before an Upward Flag Football game, I
was kneeling in a mud puddle with rain
beating down on the players, cheerleaders
and parents listening to a fellow coach
thank the Lord for the rain we were
currently receiving. I thought this guy was
either a farmer who needed the rain for his
crops or a meteorologist that had finally
gotten a forecast correct.
But he was
neither. He was a man who loved all gifts
from the Lord. He thank the Lord for the
spring rains so we could enjoy the flowers
that bloom in May, the heat we experience
during summer to better enjoy the cool water
of our favorite swimming holes, the colorful
fall leaves we were about to cherish and the
purity of a fresh fallen snow. He thanked
the Lord for all these amazing seasonal
changes that only He could provide, for
without them we could quickly be bored with
our surroundings.
Whether it
is the sunshine, the chill of a winter
breeze, or all the rain we have been
enjoying, let us remember Psalm 118:24 "This
is the day which the Lord has made; we will
rejoice and be glad in it."
I was
recently reminded again of His great gifts
as my youngest son, Kip, spotted a rainbow
through the broken clouds and noted that God
loves us so much that He created them to
remind us He will never flood the earth
again.
Thank you
Lord for all Your gifts, including the
backdrop of seasonal changes, rainbows and
the voice of a small child sharing Your
Love!
