Spring Sermon Series

"Living a Life of Purpose" 2 Peter 3:9-11 April 20 - June 29

Larry, Tony and Ted will combine their gifts and passions in this spring sermon series that speaks of the perilous days of end times. The key verse (11) then asks: "Since these things are to be, how then ought we to live, what sort of people ought we to be?" The series will seek to answer this question and will include the following topics:

April 20 - "Don't Waste Your Life" - Larry

April 27 - "Planned for God's Pleasure" - Tony

May 4 - "Formed for God's Family - Fellowship" - Larry
See more Details Below

May 18 - "Formed for God's Family" - Larry

May 25 - "Made to Become Like Jesus" - Tony

June 15 - "Shaped for Serving God" - Larry

June 22 - "Made for a Mission" - Ted

June 29 - "Fulfilling Our Purpose for Him" - Larry

The series is set against the background of "40 Days of Purpose." Please get out your "40 Days" Devotional and join us in re-reading it during this series. For those families who do not have the book, we have 40 copies on hand for $5 each at the Reception Desk or in the Church Office. Please plan to attend and learn what God's purpose is for our lives on this earth.

General Announcements

Children of the World Concert June 1

World Help presents, as part of its 2007-08 U.S. tour, Children of the World. This choir, comprised of orphaned and disadvantaged children from several different countries, will be performing at Cool Spring Baptist Church on June 1, at 6:30 PM in the Worship Center.  The concert is free; a love offering will be taken.

Their high-energy and inspiring program will feature several songs, in both English and native dialects, as well as stirring personal testimonies. The children have performed in such venues as Focus on the Family, Brooklyn Tabernacle, Crystal Cathedral and Disney World.

Children of the World represents millions of innocent hurting children who are suffering needlessly as a result of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. Their purpose is to generate compassion and inspire individuals to get involved in helping over 15 million children who have been orphaned and their lives drastically impacted by AIDS. A special video presentation will take you into the heart of this crisis and show you how to make a difference.

Download a Flyer about the event HERE.

C.A.R.I.T.A.S. and Embrace Richmond

CARITAS 2008 - April 16th to May 10th

Our two weeks of CARITAS and Embrace Richmond ministry were a tremendous success. We ministered to 26 people in 9 families. Thank you to the many volunteers for your time, resources and prayers. We logged over 2,500 volunteer hours in CARITAS and filled over two PODS with furniture for Embrace Richmond!

Missions Ministries Opportunities

Wyatt House Renovation

“The Wyatt House” is a home named for Cool Spring missionaries, Roy and Joyce Wyatt. The Missionary Housing Team is renovating and furnishing it for missionaries on stateside assignment. We welcome you to be a part of the process! There are numerous repairs needed, as well as donations of furnishings for the home.

The Wyatt House Team has already worked on landscaping, driveway, and sidewalks. Thanks to the youth for giving time during their Spring Break!  The youth worked on the landscaping during the 30-Hours of Famine. The next jobs will be power washing the house, adding shutters and painting the interior. You are invited to help! Other repairs and furnishings are needed. Contact Judy Brummett, 746-3488 or the Missions office, 746-8972 Ext. 1.

Click Here for Details of What is Needed

Contact Judy Brummett,
746-3488 (jbrummett5@netzero.net), or the Missions office, 746-8972 Ext. 1 for more information.

Cotton Fabric Needed
The Genesis Sunday School class supplies machine sewn pillowcases for the Polly Frank's Foundation. The Foundation provides pillowcases filled with coloring supplies and stuffed animals for abused children brought to MCV, St. Mary's and a hospital in Fredericksburg. The children range in age from toddlers to 12. Fifty pillowcases at MCV alone are given out each month. The Genesis ladies meet once a month to sew pillowcases to donate.

If anyone in the church has any 100 % cotton fabric they would like to donate to this cause, please contact Lyndi Wells (559-8533) or Patsi Deans (559-7622). One yard will make one standard size pillowcase. There is a great need for fabric that can be used for children 8 - 12 years of age because they don't care for the juvenile prints.

International Missions Ministry
There are funds available for these trips which allow all individuals to take advantage of these opportunities. Please keep these trips in your prayers as we reach beyond our community in the name of the Lord.

Trips Planned for 2008:

Dominican Republic Trip Update May 18-25
Medical/Water Purification
Please pray for these individuals as they prepare to go to the Dominican Republic May 18-25. They will be ministering through meeting medical needs and with installation of water purification systems. Russ Melton, Lowell Brummett, Judy Brummett, Brent Bosher, Hunter Goode, Letha Bryant, and Wayne Smith.

Ecuador
General Evangelism - Fall 2008

If you are interested in any of these international trips or would like to participate in a local missions opportunity, contact Wayne Smith, Minister of Discipleship & Missions, at 746-0989 or wsmith@coolspring.org or Tyler Burkett, Partnership Missions Leader, at 559-9905.

Ministry Opportunity at
Hanover Juvenile Correction Center

Save Your Ukrop's Golden Gift Certificate

Ukrop's started sending out their Golden Gift Certificates last week. The more Golden Gift Certificates we collect, the larger our share of the payout will be for our Building Fund. Please turn your certificates in to the Financial Office by June 1.

Spring Food Drive May 4 - 25

It's time again for our annual Spring Food Drive to replenish the shelves in the Food Pantry. There continues to be heavy use of the Food Pantry so we need to restock in order to keep up with these requests. As usual, we are asking the Adult Sunday School Classes to participate. Please bring the items assigned to your class during the month of May and put them in the food cartons located in the Welcome Center, Parlor and Children's Building. Your loving generosity is appreciated and allows Cool Spring to continue this important ministry to our community.

Use Your MVP Card!

We received $43.94 from Food Lion for our Building Fund because you used your MVP Card when you shopped for groceries. If you have not registered for Cool Spring Building Fund benefits, please give Bette a call for more information.  You have to re-enroll in the program every year by logging on to www.foodlion.com and choosing “Fundraising” or by calling 1-800-210-9569 Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm. You will need your Food Lion MVP number (under the bar code on the back of your card or key ring card) and then choose Cool Spring Baptist Church Building Fund.

Lord's Supper Team Needs Help

We are looking for couples or pairings of individuals who would enjoy working together on our Lord's Supper Ministry Team to help prepare the elements for communion throughout the year. You would serve two or three times a year based on your availability. We would welcome your consideration in getting connected in service through this avenue of ministry. Our team leaders would be delighted to talk with you further about how you can be a part of this exciting team ministry. Please call John & Kathy Terpay at 569- 1630 or jkterpay@comcast.net

Reception Desk Volunteers Needed

A smile for a visitor, a cheerful greeting for a telephone caller and pleasant instructions for a delivery person - these are all very important duties of a Cool Spring volunteer week-day receptionist. Positive first impressions are critical in helping our church make a difference in the lives of those in our community. That's why our receptionists are such important people!

Does this sound like a position for you? Our desire is to staff two people a day - 9:00 am to 12:30 pm OR 12:30 to 4:00 pm. We currently have eight very capable, faithful volunteers and three substitutes. If you can't work every week, perhaps you can share with another person. A volunteer for Wednesdays from 12:30 - 4:00 pm is our most urgent need. For more details, please call Candace at 746-8970.

Greeters Needed

Friendly people are needed at various locations throughout the church to assist guests on Sunday mornings. Please call Peggy Hoover at 779-2086 for more information.

The Care Ministry

The Weekly Prayer List is Available Online

Remember to Pray for . . .

CARITAS Families
Pray for the families who spent two weeks at Cool Spring to find employment and housing. Pray that as they leave us on Saturday, they will have seen Jesus in this place, in the love and concern given to each of them by leaders and volunteers.

Due to the sensitive nature of prayer requests, the list is only available in the Password Protected area of the Cool Spring Site.  However, it is easy to sign up for a password, just go to Password Pages and submit the New Registration of Password Form.

Cool Spring Grief Support Group

If you have lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, it may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. You've probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. That's the reason for GriefShare, a special support group for people grieving the loss of someone close.

The next session, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at 5:00 pm, is entitled "The Journey of Grief" and will help us prepare for some of the things we can expect along the pathway of grief. Remember that each session is "self contained" and you do not have to attend in sequence. If you know others who might benefit from the group, please invite them to join us.

Please contact Jerry or Patsi Deans at 559-7622 or jerry.deans@comcast.net or Darrell or Marsha Rettig at 746-2853 for more information.
